The Piece

Rossini’s Tarantella

Based in Southern Italian folklore, the Tarantella’s origin is connected with tarantism. Tarantism was a mysterious “illness” that appeared in Italy in the 15th to the 17th century. It was obscurely associated with the bite of the tarantula spider. Those who were bit by the spider were seemingly cured by frenzied dancing!

Today, the Tarantella is an energetic and lively dance that continues to be a favorite amongst dancers around the world!

We have the special privilege of performing Rossini’s Tarantella, straight from Italy!
